Refilling the well
This is my idea of freedom: no papers to grade, nowhere to be, and endless hours of reading.
Since Moon Sea Crossing closed at the Fringe, I've spent aimless days reading: Nick Hornby's latest, A Long Way Down; The Living Great Lakes by Jerry Dennis; an advance reading copy of The Garneau Block by Todd Babiak; an interview with James Tate in The Paris Review; postings from the AlphaSmart group on Flikr; the August issue of Vogue; current and back issues of Misunderstandings Magazine, UnderCurrents, Brick & Poetry; and, lots of blogs & websites about books and writing (most notably, Kate's Book Blog).
I had (an admittedly neurotic) thought this morning as I stood before the bookshelf in the basement: What if our house burns down before I have time to read all these books? Maybe it's time to reread Siddhartha.

Moon Sea Crossing's Premiere
I'm happy to report a 5-star review by Kellie Maltese @ Eye Weekly for Moon Sea Crossing, playing at the Toronto Fringe Festival this week.
Congratulations to Fertile Ground Productions!
"With emotions that are echoed by light and language, Moon Sea Crossing weaves together the plight of the Irish immigrant, the despair from crushed dreams and one woman's strength to rise above it all." KM

unHappy Canada Day
I stumbled onto a link to the Edmonton Journal article, Munro giving up writing life, this morning. Sounds like The View From Castle Rock will be Alice Munro's last collection.
